The screen app

Shows your content full screen, starts by itself after a power cut, keeps the display awake, carries on playing without internet, and updates itself.

Windows

Download for Windows
  1. Download the file, open it and double-click Install-ScreenSign.cmd inside it. Nothing needs extracting.
  2. Wait for SUCCESS, then press any key.
  3. A shortcut named ScreenSign Management appears on the desktop. Once you have tried it you can delete older shortcuts and the download folder. No administrator rights are needed. If Windows warns about a file downloaded from the internet — it is ours: “More info” → “Run anyway”.
    And if this computer will not run it from inside the ZIP, extract it to a folder and run it there — the file is self-contained either way.

Mac (Apple)

Open ScreenSign Go straight to the admin

“Go straight to the admin” opens the management sign-in itself: screensign.app/admin
  1. In Safari: drag the “Open ScreenSign” button onto the desktop. That leaves a shortcut there which opens ScreenSign in your default browser. Or simply click it to go in now, without a shortcut.
  2. Want a real icon in the Dock? Open the address in Safari, then choose File → Add to Dock (or the Share button in the toolbar → Add to Dock), type a name and click Add. ScreenSign is saved to your Applications folder and appears in the Dock and in Spotlight. Per Apple’s documentation, “Add to Dock” needs macOS Sonoma 14 or later. On anything older the drag in the previous step works anyway.
Being signed in is remembered per browser. If the shortcut opens in the browser you signed in with, you go straight into the admin — it is the same sign-in. In a different browser, or a private window, you will be asked to sign in.

Installing on an Android tablet or streamer

Once per device. After that it runs on its own.
  1. On the device, open screensign.app/app and tap the download.
  2. Open the downloaded file. If Android asks, allow the browser to "install unknown apps" — once.
  3. Tap "Install", then "Open". The app shows a keypad — type the pairing code from the admin site (Screens → + Screen).
  4. Set the app to come back by itself after a power cut — see "Coming back after a power cut" below. Without this step the screen will sit on the device's home screen after a power failure.
  5. In the device settings: Display → Screen timeout: Never. Wi-Fi → Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Always.
  6. Portrait screen on a rotated TV: admin site → the screen → "Rotation" 90 or 270 degrees.
  7. On Android TV: the app appears in the home screen's app row as ScreenSign. Not there? The device is still on an older version — download from this page and install over the existing one. Installing over the existing app keeps the pairing and the settings. Do not uninstall it — uninstalling clears the pairing and the screen will ask for a new code.

Coming back after a power cut

Android will not let an app open by itself after a reboot until you tell it once that it may. Any one of these three is enough.
  1. Tablet — the usual way: press the home button and choose ScreenSign, then "Always". From now on it is the device's home screen, and every start-up opens straight into the signage.
  2. A device with no home-screen choice (some streamers): Settings → Apps → ScreenSign → "Display over other apps" → allow. This is the permission Android accepts instead.
  3. Full kiosk lock: if the device was set up as Device Owner (below) there is nothing to do — it already works.
Afterwards: switch the device off and on again. If the signage did not come back by itself, that route was not the one this device honours — try the next one on the list.
And the other way round, when you need the device back: once "Always" is chosen the signage is the home screen, so the device no longer shows an app list. To undo it: Settings → Apps → Default apps → Home app → choose the original launcher.

Full lock — for the installer only

With a computer and a cable, once per device, after a factory reset and with no Google account on the device:

What it buys you: a real kiosk lock nobody can leave, a hidden status bar, and silent version updates without touching the device.
